Journal description
CIRMA Innovation J. of Economics and Business Review (EBR) is a bilingual English-French journal dealing with issues of sustainability in the provision of food, nutrition and health services as well as ecosystem services.
History of the journal:
The journal started in 2015 as a bi-annual special issue of AUMT Business Review, an African University of Management and Technologies (AUMT) -based local journal for economics and business students in Gabon, under the leadership of the General Manager Prof. Dr. Esnel Iyembit (PhD, MBA, BBA.), and the assistance of Prof Hermann Pounah (PhD, MA, BA Business Economics). It received support from international organizations, including CAMES, MBAS and Ministry of Higher Education of the Republic of Gabon. The success of the previous successive editions laid a basis for the emergence of a full-fledged journal publication under the cover of CIRMA Innovation Journals (CIJ), supervised by Prof Dr. Cush Ngonzo Luwesi (Journal Manager), Prof. Dr. Esnel Iyembit (the Chief Editor) and Prof. Hermann Pounah (the Assistant Editor).
The focus and scope of the journal:
Africa must take up the challenge of technology transfer from industrialized countries. Public and
private decision-makers in poor and under equipped countries resort to economic and social policies based on populations’ access to imported foreign technologies at lower cost rather than facilitating their local scientists to create, innovate and sell their technologies and innovations in the international market. Yet, these inadequate policies do not ensure easy adaptation and sustained resilience of businesses to some shockwaves of economic recession and depression, such like the ones experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war. These shocks limit economic growth and the strength of traditional technologies used by local opulations to adapt to food shortage, environmental change and other life-threatening pressures. Hence, the failure of these local production technologies has increased the vulnerability of the African populations and their businesses to political, economic, social and environmental crises.
Africa is experiencing a deep deficit in unleashing creativity, invention and technological innovation. These gaps become deeper and deeper in the course globalization, each country and its people seeking to specialize in order to adapt to change and/or mitigate the negative effects of this business globalization on its economy to secure a viable economic growth. However, African economies remain weak due to the limits and slowness of the process of their exports’ diversification. The continent accounts day by day enormous food imports along with a high dependence on energy technologies from Western countries. These factors combined with weak sectoral strategies and coordination, convergence and integration limit the effectiveness of national and private economic policies. They weigh strongly on businesses and human development, and have consequently a significant impact on the wellbeing of the African population. CIRMA Innovation J. of Economics and Business Review (EBR) analyses the degree at which the significant lack of creativity, inventivity and innovation affect all types of businesses and their economies in the African continent. The journal intends to unleash various drivers and impacts of technological innovation weakness in African economies to suggest new pathways for ensuring business and economic sustainability.
